Cricketers Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar to be appointed as DySP

Patna: BJP-led NDA govt in Bihar has begun the process to appoint cricketers, Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar, as deputy superintendents of police under the state’s outstanding sportspersons recruitment policy, an official said here on Saturday. The General Administration Department has recommended the names of the two Test cricketers to the home department for recruitment to the post of DySP in Pay Level-9.Mukesh Kumar, a fast bowler from Gopalganj district, made his international debut in the Caribbean in 2023. Akash Deep, a bowler from Rohtas district, made his Test debut in 2024. Both were members of the Indian cricket team that won the gold medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2022.The GAD said the recommendation was made under the Bihar Outstanding Sportspersons Direct Appointment (Amendment) Rules, 2026, after a selection committee constituted for meritorious sportspersons cleared the proposal. The appointments will depend on verification of educational, residential and other certificates, along with character and antecedent checks. The candidates must also remain active in competitive sports for five years after the appointment, as required under the concerned recruitment rules, the official said.
