Crime Branch submits charge sheet against Swapna Suresh, P.C. George

The Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet against Swapna Suresh, the prime accused in the UAE diplomatic channel gold smuggling case, and BJP leader P.C. George for allegedly conspiring against the State government and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in 2022.

The chargesheet was filed at the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Thiruvananthapuram last week. The investigation team found that the accused propagated falsehoods by accusing the Chief Minister of facilitating the gold smuggling. They also attempted to incite violence by exploiting the issue.

The case was first registered by the Cantonment Police in June 2022 on a basis of a complaint by K.T. Jaleel, MLA. It was later handed over to the Crime Branch unit in Thiruvananthapuram.

The accused were booked under various provisions including those pertaining to criminal conspiracy and wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause a riot.
