Star Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday went past Morocco’s Abderrazzak Hamdallah to become the highest goal-scorer as a foreigner for Al-Nassr in the club’s history. The team defeated Damac 2-1 in the Saudi Pro League, with Ronaldo scoring the second goal.

Ronaldo struck in the second half to finish off a Joao Felix assist and make it 2-0 for Al-Nassr against Damac, scoring his 116th goal for the Riyadh-based club to become the highest-scoring foreign footballer in its history.

Ronaldo’s strike against Damac moved him past Hamdallah’s tally of 115 goals for Al-Nassr. Hamdallah, now with fellow Saudi club Al-Shabab, represented the Knights of Najd between 2018 and 2021.

Hamdallah led the team to three major honours, including the Saudi Pro League title in 2018-19.

Defying his age, Ronaldo continues to thrive and edge closer to multiple milestones. Since making his Saudi Pro League debut in January 2023, he has racked up 90 league goals in just 93 appearances.

Ronaldo has now taken his career tally to 960 goals, leaving him just 40 short of the landmark 1,000-goal mark. He also tops the Saudi Pro League scoring charts this season with 16 goals in as many games, two clear of Al-Ahli forward Ivan Toney.

Meanwhile, a bronze statue of Ronaldo was set ablaze outside the CR7 Museum in Funchal, Madeira, in a shocking act of vandalism that drew worldwide attention after footage of the incident went viral on social media.

In the video, a man is seen dousing the statue with a flammable liquid before setting it alight, then stepping back and dancing to music. As per Fox Sports, the perpetrator later shared the clip on Instagram with the bizarre caption: “This is God’s last warning."

As per OneFootball, Portuguese police have confirmed that the individual responsible for the incident has been identified but not yet arrested. The report added that despite the dramatic visuals, the fire was extinguished.
