Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice on Tuesday (June 23) to help his side register a 5-0 win over Uzbekistan in their second Group K match of the FIFA World Cup 2026. In the fixture played at NRG Stadium in Houston, the 41-year-old opened the scoring in the sixth minute and found the back of the net again in the 39th minute. His brace in Portugal’s second match of this year’s FIFA World Cup helped him break multiple records.
Ronaldo became the first and only footballer to score in six editions of the FIFA World Cup and also the oldest player to score a brace in the tournament’s history. The two goals against Uzbekistan also helped him break a 60-year-old record and become Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history.
After leading Portugal to a commanding victory in Houston, Ronaldo took to X to share a couple of pictures from the match and captioned the post, “ESTAMOS AQUI! (WE ARE HERE!)“ The post has since gone viral on social media.
Here’s a look:
Ronaldo, who is one of only two players to have featured in six editions of the FIFA World Cup, has 10 goals to his name in football’s biggest tournament.
He scored his first World Cup goal in Portugal’s Group D match against Iran at Waldstadion in Frankfurt on June 17, 2006. He also scored once at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, netting against North Korea at Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town on June 21, 2010.
The all-time leading goalscorer in men’s international football scored his third FIFA World Cup goal against Ghana at Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in Brasília on June 26, 2014.
At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo scored four goals, including a hat-trick in Portugal’s opening group-stage match against Spain at Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi on June 15 and another goal in the following group-stage match against Morocco at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on June 20, 2018.
Ronaldo scored his eighth FIFA World Cup goal on November 24, 2022, against Ghana in a group-stage match at Stadium 974 in Doha.
