RAIPUR: A 35-year-old CRPF jawan posted in Jammu and Kashmir died by suicide while on leave at his native village in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district on Wednesday. Family members alleged he had been under prolonged stress due to marital discord and claimed he had earlier attempted ending his life complaining about harassment by his wife and her relatives.The deceased, Rajaram Prajapati, had joined the CRPF in 2021 and was posted in Jammu and Kashmir.According to police, Prajapati had returned home on leave a few days ago. Family members said an argument had taken place between the couple shortly before the incident. He was taken to Ambikapur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Police have sent the body for post-mortem and launched an investigation.
Officers said the exact circumstances surrounding the death would be established after the inquiry and statement of the family members was being recorded. The incident has also drawn attention to an alleged suicide attempt by Prajapati in December last year. According to his family, he had then recorded a video accusing his wife and her relatives of mental harassment, repeated financial demands and threats. Relatives said Prajapati underwent treatment for nearly six weeks before recovering and resuming duty. Investigators said all aspects, including the family's allegations, were being examined.
