In the midst of a controversy over the alleged theft of donations at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has stepped up its search for its first full-time Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The move aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency of the trust’s day-to-day operations.

In a meeting dated July 6, the trust announced the formation of a three-member committee comprising Justice (retired) Pramod Kohli, Lieutenant General (retired) Vishnukant Chaturvedi and former NIT Raipur chairperson Suresh Haware to recommend names for the top post.

The three-member committee is expected to complete the selection process within the next 30 days.

‘Must Be A Ram Devotee’

The list of criteria for the post of Ram Temple CEO runs long. According to The Indian Express, citing Haware, the candidate should possess “Ram ke prati shradhha ka bhav" (devotion towards Lord Ram).

People familiar with the matter told CNN-News18 that the trust requires the candidate to have profound experience managing the temple’s day-to-day operations.

“Managing lakhs of pilgrims every day requires professional systems for crowd movement, disaster preparedness, procurement and human resources and, most of all, financial management. Simply keeping money in the account does not work, it has to be invested and used properly, more so for giving it back to society", Haware told The Indian Express.

When asked about whether the candidate requires a certain professional background, sources said the committee was not restricting its search to that, adding the CEO would be appointed regardless of their “degree" or academic background.

Leadership Overhaul At Ram Temple

The Ram Temple trust has said that the CEO will play a pivotal role in introducing institutional safeguards and restoring public faith in the wake of the alleged embezzlement of funds at the Ayodhya-based temple.

According to trust officials, the controversy has deeply hurt the sentiments of devotees and the administrative change would ensure greater transparency in handling the donations offered by devotees.

In the July 6 meeting, the trust accepted the resignations of general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra, who stepped down from their respective positions after a major stir over the donation theft claims.

The controversy stems from allegations that valuable offerings made by pilgrims –– gold, silver and diamond ornaments –– were replaced with counterfeits, besides money being stolen.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation is currently underway into the case as investigators point to security weaknesses at the donation counting complex.
