Gaya: The cyber police in Gaya busted a cyberfraud racket and arrested seven suspects from Gaya and Aurangabad districts on Sunday. Police seized Rs 34,000 in cash, 14 ATM cards, 22 SIM cards, a cheque book, a bank passbook and several mobile phones from the possession of the arrested suspects.SSP Sushil Kumar, in a press note issued on Sunday, said, “Following information that mule accounts were being used to transfer money duped from people through cyberfraud, a special team headed by Cyber DSP-cum-SHO of Gaya cyber police station Abdur Rahman Danish was constituted. The team conducted raids in Gaya and Aurangabad districts and arrested seven suspects, including six from Gaya and one from Aurangabad.
”The arrested persons were identified as Ankit Kumar Singh (Aurangabad), Rocky Kumar, Abhishek Paswan, Gautam Paswan, Nikhil Kumar, Gautam Sharma and Akash Kumar. They are alleged to be part of a network engaged in facilitating fraudulent bank transactions.“During interrogation, police found that the accused, Rocky Kumar, allegedly lured people into handing over their bank accounts and SIM cards in exchange for money.
Such accounts were then used by other gang members to route money obtained through online fraud.“During scrutiny of the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), it was revealed that the bank accounts of four of the arrested persons — Gautam Kumar, Nikhil Kumar, Akash Kumar and Gautam Sharma, all residents of areas under Magadh Medical police station in Gaya — were used in cyberfraud transactions worth around Rs8.98 lakh,” the cyber DSP said.
