Basanagowda Daddal, Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation chairman and MLA, said on Saturday (July 4) that all possible initiatives will be taken to upgrade Raichur district to a tourism location.

He was speaking after visiting the work sites of ongoing projects in various areas of Raichur district.

Comparing tourism development in old Mysuru and the coastal Karnataka region, Mr. Daddal said that the Kalyana Karnataka region has remained undeveloped in the tourism sector.

“Raichur district has a historical and religious background with key reservoirs constructed across Krishna and Tungabhadra. Both rivers created many natural islands. To improve these, I will request the State government to develop them as tourism spots to attract visitors,” Mr. Daddal said.

The Union government has launched a Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme, and it provides 100% central funding to States for developing world-class infrastructure, basic amenities, and local tourism facilities at identified pilgrimage and heritage sites.

A detailed project report (DPR) has been sought to ensure comprehensive development of pilgrimage and religious places in the district, he said.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Daddal visited several hostels, schools, and other areas.
