Dan Ticktum has once again topped a free practice session this season. The Cupra Kiro driver finished fastest in FP1 on day one of the Madrid E-Prix. This marks his third top finish in a free practice session this year.
Mahindra Racing’s Nyck de Vries followed in second place as he looks to overcome the challenges he has faced since the start of the season, while DS Penske’s Maximilian Gunther finished third.
Madrid E-Prix FP1 results
Dan Ticktum has been excelling in free practice sessions this year. The Cupra Kiro driver topped FP2 and finished third in FP3 in Jeddah last month, and also topped FP1 in Miami in January. On Friday, he was the quickest at Spain’s Circuito del Jarama, setting a time of 1m 29.403s.
He shared a candid post after topping the session. Sharing a picture of himself in casual wear, he wrote: “Do I spy… the fastest driver of the day.”
Nyck de Vries of Mahindra Racing finished second despite suffering a crash at the chicane and returning to the pits. This will offer encouragement to the driver, who has been looking to make a comeback in the championship.Maximilian Gunther, who finished third, was followed by Porsche driver and current championship leader Pascal Wehrlein.
The latter currently leads the Formula E Drivers’ Standings with 68 points. DS Penske’s Taylor Barnard was fifth, followed by Jean-Eric Vergne.Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara finished seventh. He currently sits second in the Drivers’ Standings, just six points behind Wehrlein. His Porsche team-mate Nico Muller took eighth place. Andretti’s Felipe Drugovich and Nick Cassidy completed the top 10 in ninth and tenth, respectively.
What’s next at the Madrid E-Prix?
Plenty is in store at the Circuito del Jarama on Saturday. The day will begin with the second free practice session, FP2, at 08:30 local time (13:00 IST). Qualifying for Round 6 will start at 10:40 local time (15:10 IST), followed by the Madrid E-Prix race at 15:05 local time (19:35 IST).Rain is unlikely in Madrid on Saturday, with conditions expected to remain pleasant on race day.
