Investigating the alleged vulgar messages posted on social media against actor and former MP Ramya, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) Cyber Crime officials arrested two among the 13 accused identified by the police, on August 2.

The accused — Obanna, 25, from Vijayanagar, and Gangadhar, 18, from Chikkaballapura — are said to be fans of actor Darshan. They allegedly posted vulgar comments against Ms. Ramya in response to a post she had put up on the developments in the Supreme Court on the murder case in which Darshan is the prime accused.

Ms. Ramya had filed a complaint with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh on July 28 against the obscene and defamatory messages with details of the links and the accounts holders, seeking action. The Karnataka State Women’s Commission had also asked the city Police Commissioner to take action.

Mr. Singh referred the case to the CCB which tracked down 13 persons who had put up messages. Of them, two have been arrested. Efforts are on to track down the rest.

Mr. Singh said that such incidents of harassment on social media will be dealt with strictly, and social media monitoring cells deployed at eight divisions across Bengaluru are keeping an eye on such activities.
