Days after Balasore student’s death, another Odisha university shocker: Professor held for sexual misconduct

The complainant alleged that the accused entered into a physical relationship with her after making assurances of marriage, sources said. However, the accused later refused to fulfil the promise of marriage, the complaint claimed.

According to university sources, the victim has not lodged a complaint with the internal complaint committee of the institution.

Following his arrest, the university has suspended the accused professor and asked him not to leave the district headquarters with obtaining approval of the authorities.

Police sources said that the complainant accused the professor of emotionally manipulated her to gain her trust, after which he entered into a physical relationship with her by giving a false promise of marriage.

The complainant approached the police after she came to know that the accused professor was doing the same with another student, sources said.

The incident came days after a student of another leading government college died after setting herself on fire after her complaints alleging sexual harassment by a professor were ignored.
