DC leads marathon, cyclothon to boost voter awareness in Raichur

Raichur: Deputy Commissioner Poovitha S on Thursday appealed to residents to cooperate with booth-level officers (BLOs) during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls and ensure the timely submission of enumeration forms.She flagged off a marathon and cyclothon at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium to create awareness about the electoral roll revision and the implementation of new solid waste management rules.Held under the theme ‘Healthy body, clean society, strong democracy’, the programme was jointly organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat and the city municipal corporation. Students, residents and officials from various departments participated in large numbers.Poovitha said over 90% of the enumeration forms had already been distributed and urged voters to fill and submit them without delay to ensure the success of the revision exercise.ZP CEO Ishwar Kumar Kandu appealed to residents to keep the required documents ready when BLOs visit their homes for verification. CMC commissioner Zubin Mohapatra said 87% of the electoral roll revision work within city limits had been completed.

Participants covered a route passing through Ambedkar Circle, Teen Kandil and Basaveshwara Circle. A signature campaign and selfie booth were also organised to encourage voter participation.In the men’s category, Tayappa Nayak secured first place, while Narasimhulu and Narasimhulu Vadavatti finished second and third, respectively. Maheshwari won the women’s category, followed by Nanditha Raichur and Padmavathi.Additional deputy commissioner Shivanand and other senior district officials were present.
