Kozhikode The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has suo motu registered a case in connection with the death of a two-month-old infant at Kakkur in Kozhikode on Sunday (July 6, 2025). The Commission has sought a report from the District Medical Officer within ten days.
The infant had reportedly developed breathing problems after local anaesthesia was administered ahead of a circumcision procedure at the Cooperative Clinic in Kakkur. He did not respond to initial medical procedures and was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Kozhikode city, but was declared brought dead.
The report of the autopsy performed at the Government Medical College, Kozhikode, on Monday has not yet been released. The body has been handed over to the relatives.
The parents of the infant, who hail from Chelannur in the district, have filed a complaint with the Kakkur police. A case of unnatural death has been registered.
Meanwhile, the clinic issued a clarification stating that the infant did not die due to medical negligence and that the parents had withheld the fact that he was born prematurely.
