Himachal Pradesh continues to grapple with widespread destruction and rising casualties as relentless monsoon rains batter the state. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has confirmed that the cumulative death toll since June 20 has reached 80. Of these, 52 deaths were caused directly by rain-related disasters such as landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts, while 28 were due to other causes, including road accidents, electrocution, and snake bites.

Districts like Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, and Shimla have been the worst hit. Mandi alone accounts for 17 rain-related deaths, followed by 11 in Kangra. Authorities have issued a fresh alert for heavy rainfall in multiple districts, including Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, and Mandi, as the threat of additional landslides and flash floods looms.

The SDMA report also highlights that the state has so far recorded 23 flash flood incidents, 19 cloudbursts, and 16 landslides during this monsoon period. In addition to the human toll, 128 people have been injured, 320 homes completely destroyed, and another 38 partially damaged. Over 10,200 livestock and poultry deaths have also been reported, while public infrastructure damage is estimated at ₹692.6 crore.

Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams. Temporary shelters and relief camps have been established in several affected districts, although ongoing rainfall and blocked roads are slowing response efforts.

Many key highways and rural roads remain cut off due to debris and flooding, and locals have reported massive crop losses, power outages, and lack of access to essential supplies. The SDMA has urged residents to remain cautious and avoid vulnerable areas near rivers, steep slopes, and under-construction sites. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as more rain is forecast in the coming days.
