A writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to take appropriate action on the basis of a representation made to him to debar All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami from campaigning for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

Va. Pugazhendi of Puratchi Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had filed the petition on the ground that Mr. Palaniswami was making personal attacks against Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and therefore, he must be debarred from campaigning and also from contesting the April 23 election.
