Demanding a police investigation report, the Kozhikode sessions court on Friday deferred its order on the bail plea moved by Shimjitha Musthafa, accused of abetment of the ‘unnatural death’ of Govindapuram native U. Deepak, to Saturday. The court asked the police to submit the interim report immediately to proceed with further legal measures.
On February 5, she was in police custody for one day following the order of the Kunnamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court to complete further interrogation under the leadership of senior police officers and gather some evidence related to her bus journey in Payyannur. She moved the bail application at the sessions court following the rejection of the same by the Kunnamangalam court.

Fresh allegation by family
Meanwhile, the family of Deepak came up with a fresh allegation that the police were not properly conducting investigation into the incident. They alleged that the statements of those who were in the bus when the accused captured visuals of Deepak on her mobile camera alleging sexual assault, were not collected for verification.
On the other hand, Shimjitha remained firm on her complaint that there was misbehaviour on the part of Deepak. During a brief interaction with the media on February 5, she also reiterated that there was no change in her petition.
Deepak was found dead at his house near Govindapuram in Kozhikode city on January 18. According to police sources, the video alleging sexual harassment was shot by the suspect during a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
