The interruption wasn’t the first of its kind at the event being held as a test run for the World Championships slated to be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium later in the year as the Men’s Singles Round of 16 fixture between Indian HS Prannoy’s and Loh Kean Yew of Singapore was also interrupted due to the same reason.

The first and third games of the Round of 16 encounter between Prannoy and Loh had to be thwarted momentarily as bird droppings halted the run of play.

The instance fueled the criticism around the event after Danish shuttlers Anders Antonsen and Mia Blichfeldt flagged concerns over the arrangements made at the event.

Blichfeldt had slammed the unaccepable conditions at the event, which was followed by Antonsen’s withdrawal from the event citing the level of pollution in the Capital City, which resulted in a fine of 5000 USD.
