NEW DELHI: A day after Kamal Dhyani's death, his family is thinking about moving court for justice. His father, Naresh Dhyani, told TOI that they would examine all legal options after Kamal's last rites.
"Once the rituals are over, we will explore the option of going to court against all who were responsible for my son's death. What happened to him should not happen to any other family," he said. Kamal seemed to have fallen into an open DJB pit while riding his bike early on Friday and died. Recalling the future his son was building, Naresh said Kamal was about to get promoted and recently started planning the next phase of his life.
"He was settling down and progressing in his career. Like any father, I had hoped to get him married. All those dreams have been shattered in a single moment." According to the family, Kamal regularly used the same route to commute to work and was familiar with the area. On Friday, too, he crossed the stretch safely while going to office. "In the evening, he had no idea that a pit had been dug up there. There were no warnings or proper barricades," his father said.
"He told us that he had reached the district centre, and after that we don't know what exactly happened — whether he fell into the pit or something else occurred.
Only god knows." Kamal's friends described him as cheerful, energetic and full of life. Mayank, a close friend, said Kamal was passionate about travelling and riding bikes, and often spoke about exploring new places. "He was saving money for trips and used to plan tours.
He always tried to spread happiness." Recalling their last conversation, Mayank said he had spoken to Kamal just two days before the tragedy. "We were sharing happy moments, laughing and joki-ng like we always did. There was nothing unusual. I still can't believe that he's gone; it feels as if his phone call will come any moment." Altaf Alam, another friend, said Kamal had made all the arrangements for his parents' anniversary, which was on the same day. "He would have never imagined that something like this would happen."
