A man riding his bike in Delhi’s Janakpuri area died after reportedly falling into a water board pit, sparking concerns over civic safety and police responsiveness. The victim has been identified as Kamal, a resident of Kailashpuri, who was returning home from his office in Rohini late at night.

FAMILY’S FRANTIC SEARCH

According to Kamal’s relatives, attempts to contact him throughout the night failed, prompting them to begin a search. “We went from one police station to another—Janakpuri, Sagarpur, Vikaspuri, and even Rohini—but no one took our complaint seriously,” said a family member.

The family alleges that police showed a lack of urgency in tracing Kamal, forcing them to spend the night moving between stations. It was only around 7:30 am the following morning that authorities called the family to inform them of the discovery.

DISCOVERY AT THE SCENE

On reaching the site, Kamal was found inside the pit along with his bike. Relatives blamed the water board for negligence, claiming the pit posed a serious hazard. “It is possible that someone may have harmed him and disposed of him in the pit,” the family added, highlighting their suspicion over the circumstances.

POLICE INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

Delhi Police have confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Officers are examining the site and collecting evidence to determine whether the death was accidental or the result of foul play.

The incident has once again raised questions over the maintenance of civic infrastructure and the accountability of authorities tasked with public safety.
