New Delhi: Delhi will host the ISF World School Wrestling Championship and the ISF World School Badminton Championship for the first time in 2027.The championships will feature wrestling and badminton competitions and are expected to bring together thousands of student-athletes from over 50 countries.
They are expected to provide Indian school athletes with valuable international exposure, promote a stronger sporting culture among students and mark another significant step towards India’s vision of becoming a global sporting powerhouse.A tripartite hosting agreement has been signed between Delhi govt, School Games Federation of India and International School Sport Federation in the presence of Delhi education minister Ashish Sood.Sood said the memorandum of understanding reflected Delhi’s growing stature as an international sporting destination. “This agreement will boost the morale of our young athletes, improve their performance and provide them with exposure to world-class sporting facilities and international competition.” He added that the event would also strengthen Delhi’s sports ecosystem and further establish the city as a capable host for major national and international sporting events.
Preparations for the championships, he said, will begin immediately.Sood also said the championships would provide fresh momentum to ‘Khelo India’ and ‘Fit India’ initiatives. “Delhi govt is continuously working to develop world-class sports infrastructure and establish the national capital as a premier destination for international sporting events,” he added.Highlighting the city’s expanding international sporting calendar, Sood noted that Delhi will also host the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in July 2026. He said staging the ISF World School Championships the following year would further strengthen Delhi’s identity as a global sporting destination.
