Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday said there should be no doubt that the Congress stands with women’s reservation, but if the current bill, as has been presented now, is passed will put an end to democracy.
Pointedly responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on the women’s reservation bill earlier, Gandhi said in reality this legislation has nothing to do with women.
There should be no doubt that the Congress stands with women’s reservation. The reality is that this is not about women’s bill," Gandhi said during the special session in Parliament.
She alleged that the Centre, by introducing these bills, wants to take away the rights of the Other Backward Classes (OBC).
“The government wants to take away the rights of OBCs by not conducting the caste census and sticking to 2011 census figures. If this bill is passed then democracy will be finished in the country," she said.
