The Forest department has suspended a deputy range forest officer over alleged negligence that caused a loss to the department in the sale of a sandalwood tree at a private property in Attappady.

Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Administration) J. Justin Mohan on Saturday placed Ommala deputy range forest officer V.A. Satheesh under suspension based on an inquiry report submitted by the Mannarkkad Divisional Forest Officer (DFO).

The inquiry found that Mr. Satheesh had failed to ensure the sandalwood logs were delivered to the Marayoor Sandalwood Depot in Idukki, the State’s only Forest Department facility for the collection, processing and auction of sandalwood, resulting in a financial loss to the department.
