Even as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders in Tamil Nadu continue to express optimism about actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) joining their front to face the 2026 Assembly elections, the party has reiterated its ideological opposition to the BJP, denying any such possibility.
Speaking to reporters at Pudukottai on Friday (June 27, 2025), former AIADMK Minister K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji, while responding to a question on the possibility of TVK joining the NDA, said: “There are possibilities and discussions are underway. Wait and watch how it unfolds.” Echoing a similar sentiment, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran again expressed hope that TVK would come on board.
Last month, former Minister Kadambur C. Raju had said Mr. Vijay also views the ruling DMK as “anti-people” and like-minded parties opposed to the DMK would come together.
TVK denies alliance talks
However, TVK seems to have declined the overtures and maintained its distance from the NDA. Sources in the party denied any alliance talks and reiterated they would never align with the BJP, which they described as a “sectarian force involved in divisive politics.”
The sources recalled Mr. Vijay’s stance during the party’s inaugural State-level conference at Vikravandi last year, where he inisunated the DMK as a “political enemy” and the BJP as an “ideological enemy.”
TVK executive committee meet on July 4
Meanwhile, the TVK State-level executive committee would meet on July 4 at its headquarters in Panaiyur near Chennai. The meeting is expected to set the stage for several key decisions including ramping up the party’s organisational structure, resuming zonal-level training programmes for booth agents and charting out Mr. Vijay’s much-anticipated Statewide tour.
