Despite rough weather, Indian Navy’s helicopter evacuates injured sailor from ship off Mumbai coast

NEW DELHI: Weathering the storm, a Sea King helicopter of the Indian Navy from INS Shikra, a naval helicopter base in Mumbai, on Saturday undertook a medical emergency sortie to evacuate an injured 30-year-old seafarer from an India-flagged vessel off the city coast.In a post on X, the Indian Coast Guard said, “Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in close coordination with the Indian Navy facilitated the medical evacuation of a 30-year-old sailor from MT Desh Shakti who sustained serious eye injuries on board the ship.”In another post on X, the Navy’s Western Naval Command said, “In spite of the red alert due to incessant rains, poor visibility and rough seas, the helicopter skillfully evacuated the injured seafarer utilising a rescue basket. After stabilising the patient onboard the helicopter, he was transported ashore for urgent medical care.”The mission reaffirms the IndianNavy’s commitment to safeguarding lives at sea and its reputation as first responders in the Indian Ocean Region.
