The United Arab Emirates has said it does not want the ongoing conflict with Iran to escalate further, even as tensions rise across the Middle East, as reported by the Wall Street Journal
According to officials, the UAE has stressed that it is not seeking a wider regional war and urged restraint to prevent the situation from spiralling into a broader conflict. The remarks come as Iran has launched missile and drone attacks across the region following strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets.
“Despite the gravity of these developments, our position remains balanced: We do not seek to widen the conflict," Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation said in a statement.
A senior adviser to the UAE leadership also warned that Iran’s actions against Gulf states were a miscalculation and risk isolating Tehran further. The adviser urged Iran to act responsibly and emphasised that its conflict should not extend to neighbouring countries.
The statement comes amid a sharp escalation in the region, with several Gulf nations, including the UAE, facing missile and drone attacks as part of Iran’s retaliation in the ongoing war.
Despite condemning the attacks and asserting its right to defend itself, the UAE has signalled that it wants to avoid further escalation and prevent the conflict from spreading across the Gulf.
