This Friday was nothing less than a treat for cinema lovers, as they were presented with not just one but two highly anticipated films - ‘Dhadak 2’ (starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri) and ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ (starring Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kisan, and more).
Both sequels come from different genres, narrate different stories, and thus, hit differently. While the former is an intense love story that highlights some serious and dark societal norms, the latter is being lauded as a desi comedy drama.
While both movies were expected to face tough competition from Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s ‘Saiyaara,’ the box office report shows that ‘Dhadak 2’ struggled harder than ‘Son of Sardaar,’ minting Rs 3.35 crore on its opening day, according to Sacnilk.
‘Dhadak 2’ vs ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ opening day collection
Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ earned more than Rs. 6 crore on its first day, despite tough competition with ‘Saiyaara’ and ‘Dhadak 2.’ The film’s opening day numbers surpassed Saiyaara’s Friday collection. However, ‘Dhadak 2’ is expected to perform better on the weekend, as the movie has been garnering positive response from both critics and audiences.
‘Dhadak 2’ occupancy
Directed by Shazia Iqbal, ‘Dhadak 2’ enjoyed an overall occupancy of 22.85 percent.
It was a slow start for the movie, with the morning shows recording only 15.02 percent, but as the day progressed, the numbers improved. The show saw 22.29 percent and 22.03 percent occupancy during the afternoon and evening shows, respectively. It recorded the highest during the night shows - 32.07 percent.
Siddhant Chaturvedi on ‘Dhadak 2’
Speaking about the movie and the vision behind it, Siddhant Chaturvedi told PTI, “It is a huge responsibility...
A lot of the credit goes to our director, who from day one was very sure of what she wanted and how she wanted to tell the story, how the characters should be, and she didn't want to over-dramatise anything or oversimplify anything. She just wanted things to be as they are in reality.”
