As Iran war continues to escalate affecting supply of fuel, several fuel stations in Bangladesh’s capital remained closed on Tuesday.
According to ANI, the staff of a petrol pump in a busy area in Dhaka remained unsure of when they would be able to secure fuel supplies, citing payment processing issue.
“Since the bank was closed at that time, we couldn’t submit the payment. As a result, no fuel delivery was made here," Aminul Islam, assistant manager of the fuel station, told ANI.

The staff, however, said that they do not know the quantity of fuel expected in next delivery.
The de-facto closure of Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway chokepoint of 39km connecting the Persian Gulf to Gulf of Oman, further sent shockwaves across the global economy. Hormuz, which accounts for 20 per cent of global fuel, has disrupted exports from the Gulf post-closure, triggering inflation, recession and chaos in supply chains, especially those of energy.
Recently, India sent 5,000 tonnes of diesel to Bangladesh as the country faces a fuel shortage following the West Asia war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Bangladesh has been facing shortages of petrol and diesel due to disruptions in global oil supplies following the war in Iran.

“Under the state-owned fuel supplier Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), the oil companies are supplying an amount of fuel each day that is clearly insufficient compared to the existing demand," the Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners’ Association said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
“With millions of motorcycle riders and users across the country, customers are being forced to stand in long queues for hours to purchase fuel. As a result, many are becoming exhausted, frustrated, and increasingly bitter. At the same time, nozzle operators and pump workers are struggling to cope with continuous duty, mounting pressure, and frequent arguments with irritated customers. They are not accustomed to such relentless work conditions", it added.
Previously, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation Chairman Muhammad Rezanur Rahman said Bangladesh must import at least 90,000 tonnes within six months.
Bangladesh has introduced strict measures to manage its fuel crisis such as closing public and private universities, imposing daily limits on fuel sales.
