Dhanbad Law College bans political activities for two years after student clashes

The Law College In Dhanbad

Dhanbad: In the wake of recent student clashes, the Dhanbad Law College has decided to impose a complete ban on political activities on its campus for the next two years. The decision was taken during a meeting of teachers and non-teaching staff chaired by principal Kamal Kishor.According to the college administration, only events and activities officially announced by the university and the Bar Council of India will be permitted during this period. A copy of the resolution has been forwarded to the governing body and the vice-chancellor of BBM Koylanchal University, to which the college is affiliated.Kishor stressed that events organised by the college administration, the university, and the Bar Council of India will be allowed, but no independent or politically motivated programmes would be entertained. The decision comes after violent clashes broke out on Sept 10 between two student groups, leaving more than half a dozen students injured. The confrontation erupted following a controversial Teachers’ Day celebration on the college premises, where a dance performance by some girl students went viral on social media.Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) intervened soon after, mounting pressure on the college administration to act against students accused of organising “indecent and vulgar” performances.

Their protests further escalated tension on the campus. In response, the college authorities opted for a strict ban on all political activities to restore peace and maintain discipline. The principal expressed hope that the decision would ensure a healthy academic environment and prevent further disruptions. The move is seen as a strong step to safeguard the academic atmosphere of the institute and curb external political influence in student affairs.
