Around two to three hours before Raghav Chadha, Ashok Kumar Mittal and Sandeep Pathak announced their exit from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), party chief Arvind Kejriwal posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday afternoon — a message that, in hindsight, appeared telling.

In his post, Kejriwal said he had shifted to a government-allotted bungalow. Notably, after stepping down as Delhi Chief Minister, he had been staying at Mittal’s residence on Feroz Shah Marg in New Delhi.

The timing of the post has since drawn attention, with many seeing it as a possible indication that Kejriwal was aware of the developments within the party. It would have been awkward for him to continue staying at Mittal’s residence after the MP chose to part ways with AAP and join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mittal’s exit is particularly significant, given that the party had recently elevated him as Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha, replacing Chadha.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Delhi minister Kapil Mishra took a swipe at Kejriwal, claiming he had been staying at Mittal’s residence until earlier that day.

“The funniest thing is that Kejriwal was camped out at Ashok Mittal ji’s house until this morning. Today, Ashok Mittal ji quit AAP, so Kejriwal had to vacate," Mishra wrote on X.

Kejriwal has now moved into his new residence at Lodhi Estate in New Delhi. He is entitled to government accommodation in his capacity as the national convenor of AAP.

The bungalow, classified as a Type VII government residence, was allotted in October after the Delhi High Court raised concerns over delays by the Centre in the allotment process.

Spread across roughly 5,000 square feet, the residence is among the larger categories of official accommodation and includes four bedrooms, a hall, dining area, office space, waiting room, two lawns, a garage, and three servant quarters.
