United States Vice President JD Vance on Monday dismissed reports that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had deliberately snubbed him during the latest round of US-Iran talks in Switzerland, saying online speculation did not reflect what actually transpired during the negotiations.

When asked whether he felt snubbed by Araghchi, who led the Iranian delegation, Vance replied: “No."

Vance made the clarification after a video from the Swiss resort of Burgenstock went viral, with many interpreting the interactions in the clip as a diplomatic slight.

In the footage, Araghchi is seen entering the meeting area and briefly speaking with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Army Chief Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi before turning back and walking out with his delegation. Vance, who was standing a short distance away, was not greeted.

Several Iranian media outlets suggested that Araghchi had intentionally declined to shake hands with the US vice president.

Rejecting that interpretation, Vance said there had been no diplomatic snub and cautioned against reading too much into the widely circulated footage.

‘Extremely Confusing As Negotiators’

“I mean, trust me, I’ve spent a lot of time dealing with the Iranians over the last few months," said Vance, while speaking to reporters before he boarded Air Force Two on Monday to head back to the US. “Sometimes I find them extremely confusing as negotiators," he added.

The vice president added that despite a “social media firestorm" suggesting the talks between the US and Iran were breaking down, “we proceeded to talk to them for like the next nine hours."

Iranian state media later attributed the brief walkout to two issues.

According to the reports, Tehran objected to a planned joint photograph with American officials, describing it as a US “media show." Iranian officials were also angered by President Donald Trump’s fresh warning to attack Iran.

While the talks were underway, Trump issued a message on Truth Social warning Tehran over Hezbollah’s activities in Lebanon.

“Iran must immediately stop their highly paid proxies in Lebanon from causing trouble. If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder," Trump wrote.

Iranian media reported that Tehran formally conveyed its objections to the US delegation before briefly walking out of the negotiations.

US-Iran Negotiations Continue

Despite the drama, the negotiations between the US and Iran did not collapse.

Iranian officials said the talks resumed and continued for around 80 minutes, with discussions focusing on sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian assets and the implementation of commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Vance described Sunday as a “very, very good day" and said the two sides made “a lot of good progress" during the negotiations.

Before departing Switzerland, the vice president also urged reporters to “mistrust a little bit what you see coming out of Iranian social media."

The incident occurred during the opening round of quadrilateral talks held under the Islamabad MoU, aimed at advancing a broader agreement between Washington and Tehran.
