Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez and Diljit Dosanjh holding the resolution
If someone had predicted a decade ago that LA would dedicate a day to a Punjabi singer, it might have sounded far-fetched. Yet here we are. In a milestone that feels equal parts surreal and historic, the Los Angeles City Council has officially declared January 6, 2027, as ‘Diljit Dosanjh Day’, recognising the singer-actor’s contribution to music, culture and global representation.
A full-circle moment in LADiljit announced the honour on Instagram. Introduced by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, the resolution recognises his role in taking Punjabi music to a global audience and increasing South Asian representation in mainstream American culture. The recognition comes as the star continues to draw massive crowds on his ongoing Aura Tour. It also builds on the success of his record-breaking Dil-Luminati Tour and a series of landmark performances on some of the world’s biggest stages, with Los Angeles playing a key role in that journey.Fans went ‘Punjabi aa gaye oye!’Unsurprisingly, fans wasted no time celebrating the announcement. “Kithon koi karlu muqabla. Proud of you Dosanjh Saab,” wrote one admirer, while another summed up the mood perfectly: “Aura so unmatched, the City of LA put it on the calendar.” Others called it a “super proud moment”, joked that “every day is Diljit Day”, and praised the star for “making history faster than time.” For fans, it was a proud moment. For Punjabi music, it was a milestone.
And for Diljit? Just another day of doing what he does best – winning hearts.
