Indore: A dispute over a farm access route took a violent turn on Saturday night when a woman was allegedly stabbed during a clash between two factions of a family in Setkhedi village of Mandsaur district. The woman, Chandabai Kumawat, sustained a serious chest injury and is undergoing treatment at district hospital.Police said that the incident stemmed from an ongoing disagreement over a pathway leading to agricultural land. Though the family’s farmland had been partitioned earlier, both sides have reportedly been at odds over the use of a route passing through government land.According to a complaint lodged by Ramniwas Kumawat, he was working in the field with his family members when his uncle Rameshwar and other relatives arrived with an excavator machine, intending to dig a trench for a pipeline.
Objections raised by Ramniwas led the machine operator to leave the site, but tension continued to simmer.A short while later, the relatives allegedly returned and an argument broke out. What began as a verbal confrontation soon escalated into violence. During the scuffle, Chandabai was allegedly attacked with a knife in her chest. The complainant also accused the other side of assaulting his mother Pratapbai, physically attacking him, and slapping his daughter Shraddha during the altercation.
After receiving an alert, a Dial-112 team reached the village and shifted the injured to the district hospital for treatment. Police have registered a case under relevant sections and launched an investigation. Officers said they are recording statements of those involved and examining the circumstances that led to the clash.
