Tiruchendur DMK MLA and former Fisheries Minister Anitha R. Radhakrishnan was arrested at Authoor in Thoothukudi district on Friday (July 3, 2026), for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, in his recent speech.

The arrest came shortly after the Madras high court dismissed an anticipatory bail field by Mr. Anitha Radhakrishnan in a case booked by Authoor police in Thoothukudi district over his alleged objectionable remarks against the Chief Minister.

Following the arrest, Mr. Radhakrishnan was taken to Thoothukudi District Superintendent of Police office for further investigation.

Stalin condemns arrest

Reacting sharply to the arrest of the DMK senior leader, party president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, in a social media post, questioned: “What was the urgency to arrest someone who was conducting inspection in his constituency? Why didn’t the ‘pure force government,’ which has so far not taken any action against the Srivaikuntam TVK MLA over the complaint made by a woman who made gang-rape allegations, show the same urgency in that case?

Mr. Stalin asked if this was the change promised by a government that is incapable of preventing murders, robberies, and sexual crimes against women across Tamil Nadu, but is busy inducting MLAs from the opposition.

Without doing anything beneficial for the people who voted for him, the Chief Minister is trying to protect his chair through horse-trading and thinks he can simply pass time by arresting opposition members who criticise him, charged the DMK president adding that “arrogance will lead to destruction.”
