A local court has remanded Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre to police custody until July 13 for assaulting doctors and nurses at a municipal hospital in Dombivli. The altercation, which was captured on CCTV, led to outrage and prompted doctors to strike, with some traumatised staff expressing reluctance to return to work. While the defense lawyer argued that the corporator acted out of frustration while addressing a public grievance regarding a pregnant patient and accused a doctor of misbehaviour, the court granted custody to the police. The prosecution had requested custody to investigate the corporator's intentions, emphasising that physical violence against on-duty medical professionals is not justified.
