A dog died after biting into a plastic bag on the roadside, triggering a crude bomb hidden inside that exploded instantly
Haveri: A dog died on the spot after its face was torn apart in a crude bomb explosion on Monday in Nalkudure village of Channagiri taluk in Davanagere district, police said.According to PSI Jagadish, the dog bit an object inside a plastic bag that had been discarded on the road.
The object turned out to be a crude bomb, which exploded and severely mutilated the animal’s face.
The dog is believed to have bitten into the plastic cover, expecting food, triggering the hidden explosive, which detonated instantly.Police said the dog belonged to a villager, Arakere Rudresh. The blast was loud enough to be heard up to 1km away, causing panic among residents. Officials suspect the crude bomb was intended to scare away or trap wild boars that damage farmland.
It is believed someone had placed it inside a plastic cover and later discarded it.PSI Jagadish said, “Yes, it was a crude bomb placed to trap or drive away wild boars, and it exploded. These are used to scare off wild boars that damage farmland. Someone had kept it in a plastic cover. When the dog bit it, it went off. No major mishap has occurred otherwise.” He added that PI Mallamma Chaube, along with the bomb squad and dog squad, has inspected the spot, and there is no further danger.
