Don’t require goons’ support for conducting Operation Toofan, says Kochi city police commissioner

Kochi: Kochi city police commissioner Kaliraj Maheshkumar S on Wednesday said that police do not require the support of goons for conducting Operation Toofan. He was responding to questions from reporters regarding a meeting allegedly convened by former KPCC president K Sudhakaran in Kochi that was attended by goons. The commissioner added that the police force and other govt officials are fully capable of carrying out the anti-drug drive abiding by the existing laws, including the NDPS Act.“Usage of drugs is illegal, and the police and other govt agencies are sufficient to dismantle the supply chain. There are laws such as the NDPS Act and other legislation to detain those involved. Only when people who use drugs stop using them can a real change happen.

That is what Operation Toofan is trying to achieve,” he said.Maheshkumar added that the meeting held in Kochi was a private event and that no investigation wasinitiated in connection with it so far. He also said that Operation Toofan has witnessed extensive public participation, with students, teachers, tourist guides and members of residents’ associations joining as Toofan Warriors to support the campaign.
