Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma penned an emotional letter to the fans of Ligue 1 champions PSG as he looks to be set for an exit from the Parisian Club after four years of association.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper played a crucial role in helping the Capital City side assert their dominance in domestic and European football, but is set to make a switch following head coach Luis Enrique’s decision to look for a new goalkeeper.

“To the special Paris fans, from the first day I arrived, I gave everything – on and off the pitch – to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain," the Italian’s note began.

“Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and disheartened," he added.

“I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done," the 26-year-old said.

“If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it," Donnarumma added.

“I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights, and of you, who made me feel at home," the statement continued.

“To my teammates – my second family – thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared," he thanked the PSG squad.

“You will always be my brothers. Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour. Thank you, Paris," he concluded.

Enrique, who helmed the Parisian side to their maiden UCL title said that, “Donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, no doubt, and even better as a person. But this is the life of high-level footballers, I am 100% responsible for this difficult decision."

“If it were easy anyone would do it, these decisions have to do with the profile of the goalkeeper that my team needs," he revealed.

Donnarumma’s agent Enzo Raiola expressed his dismay with the Spaniard’s decision as he stated, “We are shocked by PSG. There’s zero respect by the club after 4 years together".

“We will consider the situation also with our legal team. Gigio was even ready to reduce his salary but PSG changed the conditions again", he revealed.
