Cops rule out electric shock torture claim, one held

Dehradun: Dehradun police have ruled out allegations that a 34-year-old man was tortured with electric shocks and a screwdriver after being abducted and confined for nearly six hours in the Patelnagar area, citing findings of his medical examination.

However, police said the victim had suffered serious injuries in an assault, and one accused has been arrested.Sadar CO Ankit Kandari said on Monday night that the complainant, who works with a local cable TV network, had lodged a complaint on Sunday alleging that two men — Ankur Valmiki and Tahir, identified only by his first name — abducted him after a road accident on July 3. The complainant claimed he was taken to a shop in Niranjanpur wholesale vegetable market, where he was assaulted and tortured with electric shocks, branded with hot rods and attacked with a screwdriver.“During medical examination, doctors confirmed physical assault as injury marks were visible on his body. However, no signs were found to substantiate the allegations of electric shocks, insertion of a screwdriver in his private parts or branding with hot rods, as claimed by him,” Kandari said. The CO added that since the assault was serious in nature, police have added the charge of attempt to murder under BNS section 109.

The initial FIR was registered against Ankur Valmiki and Tahir under BNS sections 125(b) (act endangering human life), 127(2) (wrongful confinement) and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt). “Section 109 has now been added. Valmiki was arrested on Monday, while efforts are on to nab the other accused, who is absconding,” Kandari said.
