Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said large-scale development in Aligarh over the years was made possible because the public chose capable public representatives who had a clear vision of development.“Only those people who make development a part of their lives can work for effective development. The double-engine govt is firmly advancing this vision,” he said while inaugurating and laying foundation stones for 85 development projects worth Rs 462 crore in Aligarh.Promising that development would not stop in the region, chief minister said: “Today, in both Kol and Nagar Assembly constituencies of Aligarh, 85 projects costing more than Rs 462 crore are being inaugurated and their foundation stones laid.An example of govt’s commitment towards the region’s growth, the CM said, was the approval by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop Aligarh as a node in the Defence Corridor, which would help the region grow into a centre for defence production. The hard work and foresight of artisans and craftspersons already established Aligarh as the city of locks and later as a world-class hardware industry centre. The CM also paid respect to former chief minister Kalyan Singh and Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh.

Calling Kalyan Singh ‘Babuji,’ the CM said he was born into an ordinary farmer’s family and worked to give Aligarh a new identity in an independent India. On the other hand, Mahendra Pratap Singh formed a govt for India in Afghanistan in 1915 and worked for India’s freedom. To honour him, govt set up Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University in the district.“To develop Aligarh as a smart city, comprehensive development programmes are being implemented. For the Aligarh region alone, projects of the public works department worth approximately Rs 2,800 crore have been approved. In addition, the construction of a 6-lane highway by the ministry of national highways and road transport is progressing rapidly. Construction works of ring road, flyover, polytechnic, hospital, college and other important institutions are also in progress,” the CM said.
