Varanasi/Lucknow: The DP World PGTI NexGen Tour will make its debut in Varanasi with the sixth event of the season scheduled at the BLW Greens Golf Course here from June 16 to 18.The first-ever DP World PGTI tournament in Varanasi will offer a prize purse of Rs25 lakh and will be played over 54 holes across three rounds.
The cut will be applied after 36 holes, with the top 36 players and ties advancing to the final round.The tournament will feature a field of 72 golfers. Among the leading contenders are Sunit Chowrasia, the current leader of the 2026 NexGen Order of Merit, along with Rajesh Kumar Gautam, Bipin Mukhiya, Abhishek Kumar, Aditya Raj Singh Chahal and Vinay Kumar Yadav. Fifteen-year-old Arjunveer Shishir is also among the notable participants.The host city will be represented by local golfers Imam-ul-Haq and Hemant Yadav. The winner of the 2026 NexGen Order of Merit will earn an exemption on the main Professional Golf Tour of India for the 2027 season.CEO of DP World PGTI, Amandeep Johl, said bringing a NexGen event to Varanasi for the first time was a significant milestone. He said the tournament reflects the tour’s commitment to expanding professional golf beyond traditional centres and providing young professionals with opportunities to compete and develop their careers.The event is also expected to showcase the sports infrastructure of BLW and further strengthen Varanasi’s position on India’s sporting map.
