The delimitation of local body wards in Kerala is entering the final phase with the State Delimitation Commission set to publish the draft list on the delimited district panchayat wards on July 21.

The delimitation of district panchayat wards was carried out in the third and final phase. The commission headed by A. Shajahan, who is also the State Election Commissioner, had approved the guidelines for reorganising the wards in grama panchayats, municipalities, and Corporations in the first phase, block panchayats in the second, and district panchayats in the third, in September 2024.

The commission will accept complaints and suggestions regarding the draft till July 25. They can be submitted to the commission secretary or District Collectors either in person or via registered post. Self-attested copies of documents, if any, can be submitted along with the complaints.

Basis of delimitation

The delimitation of district panchayat wards was carried out based on population and the final notification on the ward restructuring carried out in the 152 block panchayats. The number of wards in the block panchayats has increased from 2,080 to 2,267.

The State government had earlier decided to increase the number of wards in district panchayats from 331 to 346.
