A dramatic video showing a drone exploding just metres from an Israeli military helicopter during a rescue operation in southern Lebanon has surfaced on social media. The footage captures the moment a drone strikes close to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers as they attempted to evacuate their troops.

The helicopter, deployed as part of the rescue team, was on the ground when the attack occurred, forcing a rapid takeoff to avoid further strikes.

According to a report in The Jerusalem Post, Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah launched two drones toward the troops. One was intercepted, while the other impacted near soldiers as they were loading a stretcher. Troops on the ground opened fire in an attempt to neutralise the incoming threat but failed to hit the drone before it detonated nearby. Follow for live updates on Iran-US conflict

The military said the helicopter itself was not damaged and completed the evacuation despite the strike. It lifted off within seconds of the blast to evade additional drone launches.

Separately, the IDF confirmed the death of Sgt. Idan Fooks, 19, from Petah Tikva, during operations in southern Lebanon on Sunday. A member of the 7th Armored Brigade’s 77th Battalion, Fooks was killed when a Hezbollah explosive drone struck his position. Six other soldiers were wounded in the same incident.

However, there is no confirmation that the viral helicopter footage is linked to the attack that killed Fooks. Meanwhile, Israel has issued fresh evacuation orders for residents in seven towns in southern Lebanon, signalling concerns over further escalation in the region.
