A video purportedly showing a US F-15 fighter jet chasing what seems like Iranian Shahed drones over Iraqi skies before a large explosion erupts on the ground has gone viral on social media.

The footage, shared by Iran-backed accounts, appeared to capture a high-speed aerial chase involving multiple drones. Moments later, a blast and a thick plume of smoke are seen rising from the ground. Posts accompanying the video claimed that at least two drones evaded interception despite the presence of the advanced US aircraft.

Several users on X identified the aircraft as an F-15 Eagle and alleged that the jet—often costing tens of millions of dollars—failed to stop relatively inexpensive drones reportedly worth between $20,000 and $50,000.

The video is reportedly from an Iranian strike on a British engine oil company in Iraq’s Erbil, which caused a massive fire. However, News18 does not verify the authenticity of the video.

Earlier on Wednesday, a multi-drone attack targeted a fuel warehouse in Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region. The facility, linked to BP and operated under its subsidiary Castrol, was reportedly hit, according to a statement by the Sardar Group, a major automotive company in Iraq.

The strike caused a massive blaze, with thick black smoke seen rising into the sky in videos circulating online. The incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of critical energy infrastructure in the region.

Iran’s state broadcaster, Press TV, also released footage that it said showed a similar encounter, further amplifying the narrative online.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region, following remarks by Iran’s ambassador to the United Kingdom warning that Tehran is considering potential strikes against British military bases.
