Jonathan Kuminga has yet to sign a new contract with the Golden State Warriors, and that internal pressure is starting to brew within Golden State. As training camp nears, both veteran teammates Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler have reportedly contacted Kuminga and the ones in charge of the club in search of some clarity.

It's not only affecting team chemistry, but it's also affecting the Warriors' plans for the offseason.

Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green push for answers

Jimmy Butler has reached out to the Warriors' front office about Kuminga's sluggish contract talks, reports suggest. The team needs to either lock up Kuminga or move him before training camp starts, Butler believes. Also, Draymond Green has personally contacted Jonathan Kuminga to see how he's doing and thinking during this time of limbo.

Kuminga, the 7th overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft, received an offer sheet from the Warriors worth $75.2 million over three seasons, $48.3 million of which is fully guaranteed in the first two seasons. The deal has a team option for the third year, and Kuminga declined, wanting a player option. This impasse has left both camps firmly entrenched in their disagreement over the matter. Also Read: Draymond Green drops the hammer with one word on Carmelo Anthony’s absurd claim

How the contract dispute affects Warriors’ roster and plans

Jonathan Kuminga’s unresolved contract situation is starting to impact team dynamics and offseason strategy.

The Warriors only have nine players officially signed, so there's not a lot of room for any more moves, whether it's to ink free agents or pull trades off. But the ambiguity with Kuminga is apparently bothering not just his fellow players, but even star guard Stephen Curry, who has defended the front office, but not for much longer, unless he starts to get involved himself.

With the October 1 deadline looming on whether Kuminga signs his $7.9 million qualifying offer, the Warriors find themselves faced with an important choice.

A player option would give Kuminga the flexibility he's after and could break the deadlock, but the front office would have to juggle the long-term ramifications on the salary cap and the composition of the roster. These next few days could be crucial for the Warriors as they try to work through this uncomfortable situation. Jonathan Kuminga's contract negotiations may not only decide the immediate future for Kuminga with the team, but they may also determine the team's prospects of competing for a title in the upcoming season.
