Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C Joseph Vijay reached Tamil Nadu House in Delhi on Wednesday ahead of his scheduled meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Union ministers and top Congress leaders.

Donning his signature black suit with glasses on, Vijay was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour during his first official visit to the national capital after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Vijay, an actor-turned-politician, was warmly welcomed by senior officials and state representatives at Tamil Nadu House.

Vijay’s Meeting With PM Modi

Vijay — who clinched a decisive victory in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections with his party TVK — is set to meet PM Modi, with the agenda of discussions expected to revolve around key state-related issues, development projects, Centre–state coordination, and pending administrative matters.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister is likely to present a detailed report, highlighting the state’s long-pending demands, additional funds to support welfare schemes, and more.

The discussions are also likely to shed light on the unresolved inter-state river water-sharing issues involving Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states.

CM Vijay will meet the Congress top brass, with reports indicating he may visit Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi during his first official trip to Delhi.

Pertinent to note that the Congress — which won five seats in the Tamil Nadu election — emerged as a key ally of the TVK, paving the way for the formation of government in the state.

Vijay took the oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, after the TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the election. Launched just two years back, the party secured 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, falling short of the majority mark of 118.

A government was eventually formed with the help of Congress, CPI, CPI(M), and regional parties —including VCK and IUML — marking Tamil Nadu’s first coalition government in decades.
