Madhubani: The district administration on Friday launched a special drive to catch stray cattle roaming in Madhubani town. The drive, carried out under the instructions of the district magistrate, was led by municipal commissioner Umesh Kumar Bharati and Sadar sub-divisional officer Chandan Kumar Jha.During the campaign, stray animals wandering on the main roads were rounded up and safely shifted to ‘gaushalas’ (cow shelters). Stray animals not only cause road accidents involving themselves but also pose a serious risk to pedestrians and commuters, often leading to major traffic mishaps. The municipal commissioner said making the city free from stray animals is the top priority of the district administration, as these animals obstruct smooth traffic movement on the roads.
He said the drive was conducted effectively and similar actions will continue in the future as well.Sadar SDO said the operation was conducted under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. He added that the drive was carried out in coordination with the Municipal Corporation, and the captured animals have been safely housed in ‘gaushalas’. Legal action, including fines, will be taken against the owners of these animals as per rules.
