Drone ‘sighted’ over Viyyur jail, probe launched

Thrissur: Police launched an investigation into reports of a drone being spotted hovering above high security zones like Viyyur central prison, Kerala Fire Academy and Thrissur Engineering College, in the city’s outskirts.According to reports, the drone was spotted at least three times from Thursday midnight till around 3am on Friday. As per reports it wasn't clear whether there were multiple flights by same drone or flights by different drones. However, there are reports that “eyewitnesses” may have mistaken aircraft flying overhead for drones.These areas are reportedly on the flight path, and flights heading to Kochi airport begin their descent, decrease speed and align with the airport runway long before passing Thrissur.City police commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh said police were investigating the reports and would come out with a clarification soon.
