Noida: A man allegedly attempted to escape from police custody and assaulted a sub-inspector while being taken for medical examination on Monday. The accused had been detained for creating a disturbance near Mata Temple.
Videos of the incident surfaced on social media the day after. Tests later confirmed the man was under the influence of alcohol, police said.A police control response (PCR) vehicle deployed for airport security duties, parked in the area, had been sent to the spot when locals reported the disturbance. A sub-inspector (SI) and other police personnel on duty were present in the vehicle.Officers detained the accused and were bringing him to the community health centre at Kanigarhi when the accused, seated in the backseat with the sub-inspector, allegedly opened the door and attempted to flee.
When the SI stopped him, the accused got into a scuffle with the officer on the roadside.The commotion briefly disrupted traffic in the area. Police personnel at the scene attempted to restrain him, while additional forces from Jewar police station rushed to the spot after the PCR team informed the control room about the situation.The accused was eventually overpowered and taken into custody again. An FIR has been registered against him under sections for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty, assaulting a police officer, creating a public disturbance and attempting to escape from lawful custody. Legal proceedings are underway.Strict legal action would be taken against anyone found assaulting public servants or attempting to evade lawful custody, police said.
