Panaji: The Bombay high court at Goa on Wednesday said that it is the duty of every department in the state to fill up posts that fall vacant. Govt must initiate steps for filling up posts in advance if it involves a selection process through the Goa Public Service Commission, the court said.
A division bench of justices Bharati Dangre and Nivedita Mehta told state govt to take prompt steps to fill up the post of deputy director in the personnel department by promotion. The court passed the direction in a petition filed by Ranjan Hinde, who holds the post of statistical officer with the department. He had sought court directions to govt to convene a departmental promotion committee (DPC) to fill up the post.He told the court that the deputy director’s post will fall vacant on Sep 1 upon the superannuation of Liladhar Desai, who was due for retirement on Aug 31, 2024. However, year’s extension was given to him, which is likely to come to an end on Aug 31.The HC disposed of Hinde’s petition after issuing directions to govt to fill up the post.
