Eight Goans deported from the US between 2024 and 2025

Porvorim: A total of eight Goans, all male, were deported from the USA between 2024 and 2025, CM Pramod Sawant stated in a written reply in the legislative assembly.The CM said the NRI commission does not have data on the number of Goans residing in the US with expired passports and how many are detained by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Centre.The state registered 27 cases against illegal recruitment agents between 2021 and 2026 based on complaints from families, Sawant said, adding that the majority were registered by the crime branch. The highest number of cases, 12, were registered in 2025.In 2021, only one case was filed, while in 2022 and 2023, three cases each were registered. The number doubled in 2024, with six cases and rose to 12 in 2025. In Jan this year alone, two cases were registered.The cases involve agents cheating on the pretext of providing jobs abroad. The majority of the cases are under investigation and pending trial.
